I’ve Filed for Bankruptcy or a Consumer Proposal. What Should I Do Next?

Modified on Tue, 24 Jun at 10:02 AM

At Fig, we understand that filing for bankruptcy or entering a consumer proposal can be a difficult and stressful experience. While your Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT) manages your insolvency process and remains your primary point of contact, it’s important to also let us know once you’ve filed.

Letting Fig Know

If Fig has not yet been formally notified by your trustee, you may still receive reminders or follow-ups about your payments. To help us prepare for your trustee’s official notice, please contact us with the following information (if available):

  • Name of the trustee’s office (required)
  • Trustee’s contact information (required)
  • Estate or file number
  • Name of your account manager at the trustee’s office
  • Your account manager’s phone number and email address
  • A copy of your creditor package

If you don’t yet have all this information, no problem! You can provide us with the information you do have, and we’ll take it from there.

What Happens Next?

Once we receive a formal notice from your trustee, we will:

  • Cease all direct communications with you regarding your loan
  • Route all future correspondence through your trustee
  • Update the status of your Fig account based on the trustee’s instructions

Questions?

If you have questions about your bankruptcy or consumer proposal status, or how it may impact your Fig loan, your trustee is the best person to advise you. They’ll provide the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding your legal obligations.

If you need to update us or provide trustee details, you can reach our support team at support@fig.ca.
