Protecting Yourself From Impersonation Scams

Modified on Thu, 27 Nov at 11:22 PM

Scams targeting applicants and borrowers are getting smarter, and they often rely on speed, pressure, and impersonation. We wanted to provide our customers with sure fire ways to understand what Fig considers red flags and how you can protect yourself.

 Impersonation of Fig Support

Bad actors may use email domains which are similar but not identical to Fig email domains, such as figfinance.ca or figfinancialsupport.com. These messages may:

  •  Claim they can help you book your loan faster
  • Ask you to reply urgently or to call a non-Fig phone number
  • Reference a previous loan application, or indicate that you may have applied with us in the past

Important: Fig emails only come from @fig.ca.

Third-party helpers who guide you through booking a loan

A common scam involves an individual claiming to help you invest, improve credit, or access a financial opportunity. They then instruct you to apply for a Fig loan and send them the money to use for these investments with promises of too good to be true returns.

This is never legitimate.

Fig does not require or suggest that you use your loan for any specific purpose including investing, the purchase of gift cards, or sending the funds to another person.

Mismatched or suspicious phone numbers

Scammers often include phone numbers that are not ours.

Fig does not accept inbound calls at this time, and our only phone number is +1 844-431-3444 where you are able to leave a voicemail for our team to email you back.

Phishing emails with questionable links

Though we have not received widespread reports of phishing emails impersonating Fig targeting applicants or borrowers, it is important to stay vigilant when receiving any email asking for you to take action.

Always check:

  • The sender ends in @fig.ca
    • We also send emails from @offers.fig.ca and @info.fig.ca
  • Links point to Fig domains, all application links are hosted at Fig.ca
  • Messages do not pressure you to act quickly

How Fig Protects You

  • Every application is reviewed and may require confirmation of key details
  • We use industry-standard partners for banking and ID verification to ensure only you can book your loan
  • We never cold-call customers, we will only contact you via SMS if you have started an application with us

How You Can Protect Yourself

  • Only trust emails ending in fig.ca.
  • SMS messages from Fig always include the ability to unsubscribe
  • If you are made to feel pressured to  finish booking your loan, stop immediately and contact our support team.
  • Never book a Fig loan for the purpose of sending funds to someone you don’t know
  • Review links before clicking to ensure they are hosted by Fig
  • Reach out to support@fig.ca if you are ever unsure. This is the only official support channel.

If You Think You Have Been Targeted

  1. Stop engaging immediately.
  2. Do not click links or respond further.
  3. Email support@fig.ca as soon as possible.
  4. Our team will review the situation and provide clear next steps to help you stay protected.
